Naughty Dog
Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us; what do all these titles have in common? I’ll give you a hint, they’re created at a kennel – The Kennel, where the marketing’s dope and their games more-so! Even though Naughty Dog has been around since the mid 80s (known as Jam Software before changing to Naughty Dog, Inc in 1989), it wasn’t until the 90s that the kennel got its big break with their huge success Crash Bandicoot, an awesome game about an awesome bandicoot rat named Crash who exists or created or enhanced by an Evolvo-Ray on the Wumpa Islands by none other than the bald-bearded dwarf, Dr. Nero Cortex who’s now hell-bent on taking over the world but not before destroying Crash! Our goal playing Crash is to defeat Dr. Cortex @ every turn cause we’re the good guy and he’s the bald-bearded baddy with the “N” stamped or tattooed on his forehead. The series sold approximately fifty million copies worldwide all thanks to The Kennel – Thanks Naughty Dog! – moving on… Their next project, Jak & Daxter took The Kennel approximately three years to complete & for good reason too – Graphics, game-play, action, driving, & shooting – everything in a gamer’s dreamboat was visible in this title, which in game dev means SOLID & that’s what you got with Jak & Daxter. Thanks to the kennel’s work on the Jak & Daxter series, the PS2 was taken to the next level of gaming! However, we’re still talking about the PS2 here – all before the PS3 came to market, at around which time the industry began looking for new directions in which to take console gaming to and in late 2007 the opportunity Naughty Dog was looking for appeared at the kennel’s doorstep and his name was Nathan Drake, the suave yet rugged protagonist in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, & Uncharted: Golden Abyss! Needless to say, the series took the game world by storm with its game-play, graphics, & especially storyline. Last but not least (no pun intended), “The Last of Us”! Think of it as being in the movie LEGEND, but a whole lot worse as the danger that lurks is out rain or shine! Subsesequent to a modern plague decimating everything we know, it’s left to you to play the part of Joe (a fierce survivor) with Ellie, which as per the videos I’ve seen on the 2011 VGAs, 2012 E3, & Online is not just a teenager, but a teenager who’s not afraid to survive any way possible. Needless to say, the project received raving applause at Spike’s 2011 VGAs (and in my living room), at this year’s E3 (& my living room), & expected to be released in 2013!
I have always been a fan of action movies and sci-fi TV in general… One of my favorite things in gaming for me is the cinematic part of it and the more realistic, the better. The guys at the kennel are bad-ass in putting these things together. I’m a fan!
